2018 Orange Shirt

$10.00$12.00

Janet Cromarty did the beautiful adult cradling the two children. We cleaned up the lines to make it printable on a t-shirt but hope we did not interfere with the integrity of the design. Scarlett Verbeek provided the writing.

Janet Cromarty is a band member of Kasabonika First Nation located approximately 750 km. north of Sioux Lookout. Kasabonika is a community of 1000 Oji-Cree people. The First Nation community is an isolated, fly-in community with daily air service to Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay. Janet attended Chief Simeon Mckay Education Centre which offers education from k to 12. There are 49 reserves in this area and Kasabonika is one of the three reserves that offer high school programming.

Chief Simeon Mckay Education Centre has about 300 students registered in the school. Janet was in her grade 11/12 when she designed this. Janet is described as pleasant, respectful and always has a smile for everyone. She is athletic and participates in all types of sports. Janet has 5 siblings and comes from a single-parent family. School is very important to Janet and regardless of any type of weather, she always managed to get to school. She worked hard in school and got excellent marks.

Scarlett Verbeek was a student from Grindrod Elementary School. We did not receive a biography for Scarlett Verbeek.

Grant Program

We are inviting First Nations and schools to reach out for a GRANT APPLICATION.

Funds available for grants will be dependent on sales, (funds available will be $2.00 from each shirt sold from the “Children Going Home” and “Ally Shirt” campaigns).  and will be determined in mid-January from the previous year’s sales.

Funds from “Bear Paw”, campaign will remain going to the NCTR for programs of survivors.

We had the honour to have worked with the Orange Shirt Society for six years helping them raise awareness of the intergenerational harm caused by residential schools.

Over that time as awareness grew many organizations became involved and awareness of the harm of residential schools became well known.

We then decided we wanted our fundraising efforts to support the survivors of residential schools so for a couple of years we donated to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation.

Over time we have become aware of the need of many indigenous communities, some with very small needs that we wanted to be able to help with. I.e., a field trip, learning materials, sports equipment, art supplies, etc.

We invite schools and first nations to reach out for a grant application for possible funding of their needs.

What Our Clients Say

“I just want to say a big thank you for the beautiful t-shirts that we were able to wear so proudly at this year’s DEI Youth Conference. It made a big difference. Usually, the t-shirts I have worn in the past are quite heavy and your shirts were very comfortable and breathable. I appreciate that because heat and perspiration were definitely a contender that day!” Hieu Pham-Fraser (she/her) District Principal of Vancouver School District
